Mary Jane Malone English Scholarship

The Mary Jane Malone English Scholarship (est. 2016) is a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded to a senior at Caddo Magnet High. Finalists may receive a smaller scholarship.

Mary Jane Malone (Class of 1994) was a member of the Student Government Association, Debate, and National Honor Society.  Mary Jane was also a head cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. She desired to teach English and to write after graduating from college, but passed away at a very young age. Through the generosity of her parents Farrell and Martha Malone, who have established this scholarship, her love for Magnet and her interest in literature and writing remain in our thoughts.

The scholarship is awarded annually to a senior who is an active member of campus life and who has demonstrated a persistent passion for English Language Arts through his or her coursework and writing. Other factors taken into account are a love of reading and career plans which may include a major in an English related field. Teachers, parents, or students may nominate a candidate; students may also nominate themselves.

The winner of the scholarship is selected by the Malone family from a slate of finalists.
