Debate

Caddo Magnet High’s Debate program has a long tradition of excellence.  Despite its small size, this program has consistently had debaters qualify for and do well at the most prestigious tournaments in the country. Last year at the state competition, Magnet won first in both the Advanced and Novice divisions.  Novice debaters compete mostly at local and in-state tournaments.  Advanced debaters travel to tournaments in Texas, and the national travel teams can go as far as North Carolina, Michigan and California.  This travel is expensive, but the team fundraises aggressively to help defray the cost. Many students continue to work on their debate skills year round – attending summer camps in Shreveport or at colleges and universities around the US. Interested students should talk to Mrs. McCartney in E 103.  Many students start debating as early as 7th grade, but current high school students are also able to join the program.
