Magnet’s Burton covered the 3-mile course in 18:50.81 while continuing her stellar running during the 2019 season, according to Magnet coach Louise Smyth. It was the first state title for Burton, who has finished first or second in every race this season.

“Storm took the race from the very start and got out to a 10-second lead,” said Smyth, in her first season coaching the Mustangs. “The girl started to close on her in the final seconds, but she held her off for the win.”

“I knew I would probably be in the top 10, but I didn’t expect to win,” said Burton, who led the entire race. “I just went out after it from the beginning and didn’t worry about pacing myself.”

Also making LHSAA All-State for finishing in the Top 10 were Parkway’s Joslyn Crosby (4th in 5A girls), Airline’s Josh Burns (4th in 5A boys), Caddo Magnet’s Gus Demerath, (6th in 4A boys) and Byrd sophomore Trent Wells (10th in 5A boys)
