There will be a new award sponsored by Nike at The Times Sports Awards this year. “The award is based on the commitment of the student-athlete toward encouraging children to be active within the community.” Out of five student athletes nominated, three were chosen as finalists based on online voting. The individual that received the most votes will be announced as the winner at the ceremony.
Tori Vergo is one of the three finalists. From the Shreveport Times:
Vergo volunteers two days per week with the summer YOUth FIT as a volunteer coach in the SPAR program, directed by Shelley Armstrong.
“Tori provides children, 7 to 17 years of age, with skill and fitness instruction for successful distance/endurance running,” Vergo’s nominator said. “Tori provides fundamental knowledge, skill development, proper progression, goal setting and achievement, and motivation to YOUth FIT participants, emphasizing the development of running skills and healthy lifestyles in a fun and stimulating environment.”
