Times photographer Doug Collier shot a photo essay at 8 am Fri, Sept 4, on the quad. He captured teachers, students and musicians starting the day with a 15-minute performance of blues and funk led by celebrated teen guitarist Matthew Davidson.
Davidson, a Magnet senior, was joined by Michael Hicks on trumpet, Marshall Merritt on drums and teacher Robert Trudeau on bass. Saxophonist Ethan Rogers was also to play with the group.
Teacher Bill Knox inaugurated a rolling cabinet he and his students built to help move equipment for the informal concerts.
Next Fri the performance will feature Zoe Joon Bratlie and Friends. In 2 weeks jazz pianist Edward Rasheed will perform.
