Kris Purdy Clements is one of four science teachers in the state who are finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

“There are up to five finalists chosen each year for science and five for math.  This year they just chose four in each subject,” says Clements. “Another team of judges will choose one of the four in science and one of the four in math to receive the actual Presidential Award of $10,000 and a visit to the White House.  Alas, that selection is to be sometime in 2016 or 2017!”

The eight finalists and the two awardees from 2013 will be honored at the luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion on Sept 16.

Students: Margaret McNew, Alex Witt, Brian Nguyen and Caretia Washington.
