Daily Announcements 03/13/20

  • Do you want to see a faculty member perform a TikTok at the spring spirit rally?  Well, then you need to help us select which one(s) by voting at lunch!  Jars with faculty/staff members’ names will be out at both lunch shifts Tuesday – Friday of this week.  Just drop some money in the jar of your favorite would-be TikTokker, and the one(s) with the most $$ at the end of the week will entertain us at the spirit rally.  Choices are: Mr. Allen, Ms. C. Anderson, Mr. Bottoms, Mrs. Culligan, Mrs. Jackson, MR ILGENFRITZ, Mrs. Lawrence, Mrs. Procell, Ms. Thompson, and Mrs. Youngblood.
  • Juniors and Sophomores, the testing room rosters for the ACT and Pre-ACT will be posted near the cafeteria and the counseling complex today. Please consult these rosters to determine where your testing room is located. Your testing room will be used for pre-coding on March 12th and for test day on March 17th. If your name is not on a roster, please come to the counseling complex.
  • Are you a gamer?  Are you competitive?  What if I told you that Magnet is starting a new sport?  That’s right, we are starting an Esports team!  It’s competitive gaming!!  We will play other schools just like any other sport.  Could you imagine winning a state championship in gaming?!?!?!  For those interested come by room A-16 and talk to Mr. Rosalies for more information.  Find a flier for the QR code to sign up!!
  • Interested in Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or Psychiatric Nursing? You can apply for the $1,000 SHAWN scholarship.  See Mr. Bottoms or the Senior Counselor website for an application.  The deadline is March 15th.
  • Attention Fairfield Elementary Magnet Alumni Senior Class of 2020: There will be a 5th grade class reunion for all students and teachers in the Fairfield Magnet auditorium on Friday, April 17, 2020, from 3:30-4:45. We will celebrate with pizza and cake and will reminisce by looking through old yearbooks and by watching our 5th grade DVD.
  • Mark your calendars!  The PreACTand the state ACT will be administered at Magnet on Tuesday, March 17.  All sophomores will take the PreACT and all juniors will take the ACT.  Seniors who have a score of 20 or below will also take the ACT.  Students will be automatically registered to test at no cost.
  • The Shreveport Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, a community non-profit organization, will award three $1000.00 academic scholarships in the spring of 2020 to senior students from Caddo Parish high schools.  The deadline is April 15th.  Please see Mr. Bottoms or the senior counselor website for an application.
  • Seniors planning to attend LSUS and major in education: the 2020 Arminda Riser Scholarship is now open until March 31st.  See Mr. Bottoms for an application.
  • Seniors:  ACT/WorkKeys graduation cords will be on sale during both lunch shifts.  The cords are $8.50–check or exact change only.
  • WorkKeys Gold or ACT score of 24-30 = gold/black cord
  • WorkKeys Platinum or ACT score 31-36 = silver/black cord
  • Seniors planning to attend LSUS and major in education:  the 2020 Arminda Riser Scholarship is now open until March 31st.  See Mr. Bottoms for an application.
  • Please continue to bring any Mardi Gras throws or beads to school and place them in any of the boxes around campus. Greens Club and JROTC will continue to collect them through mid-March.
  • Senior girls interested in lab or field research may apply for the Emmy Noether Award.  This award may be up to $75,000.  See Mr. Bottoms or the Senior Counselor website for more information.
  • Students, entrance into the campus must be done at the door in front of the office if you arrive after 8:20 a.m.  If you arrive before 7:00 a.m., you must use the door by the cafeteria.  Do not prop doors open unless instructed to do so by a faculty member.
  • Students- Please keep up with your ID card.  We are no longer able to replace cards for free.  There will be a $5 replacement charge.  Replacements are only made on Wednesdays.
  • Students – Please do not enter A or C Wings during lunch shifts.  If you need to get water or use the restroom, please go to the D Wing.
  • Students must leave their vehicle as soon as they arrive on campus in the mornings and come into the building area.
  • Career Center Students – You are to report to the Career Center daily unless you are told to stay at the school.

Athletics:

  • Athletes, please remember to check the athletic bulletin board for eligibility.  The lists are updated weekly.
