UNICEF is an international organization working in 190 countries and territories on behalf of children across the globe. The mission of UNICEF is threefold: to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential. One Caddo Magnet High School student has made this mission her own. A founding member and integral part of Magnet’s UNICEF organization, Senior Anna Dennis was chosen to be part of the UNICEF USA National Council. The council consists of only six high school and seven college students from across the nation. The goal of the National Council is to govern and assist UNICEF Club programs and advise the UNICEF USA Youth Engagement Team. Anna was selected to join with two college students to focus on UNICEF recruitment. Together they are responsible for designing and implementing recruitment initiatives focused on new clubs from all over the United States.

Anna spent the summer before her senior year working at National Council training at the UNICEF USA headquarters in New York City. She and her fellow council members worked with UNICEF’s marketing team to discuss the best ways to motivate today’s youth and how to spur such a wide-ranging demographic to action. Ana learned more about how the organization assists in response to humanitarian crises at home and abroad. By visiting the headquarters and exploring the various operations of the organization, Anna says she was able to “see the bigger picture that we are working towards as National Council members, which is to empower today’s youth to speak out on behalf of children everywhere.”
