Sarah Lord and Amir Kaskas represented Caddo Magnet High at the city competition for Poetry Out Loud, on Sunday, January 24, at 2:00 at the Norton Art Gallery.
The competition, presented in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition.
In the 2014-2015 school year, Poetry Out Loud celebrates its tenth anniversary, reaching nearly 2.5 million students at more than 7,300 schools nationwide in the past decade.
The top three finalists (and the poems they recited) from this year’s regional competition are:
1st Place-Shauna McCrary (North Caddo)
2nd Place-Chaddrick Thomas (North Caddo)
3rd Place-Amir Kaskas–The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls, by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Invictus, by William Earnest Henley (Caddo Magnet High, Faculty Sponsor-Leslye Gilchrist)
