September 27 was named Justin Atchison Day by Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins, in honor of Dr Atchison’s work on the recent NASA DART mission.<\/p>\n

As you might have seen in the news, NASA’s DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) mission was completed on Monday, testing kinetic impact to “nudge” an asteroid off course.<\/p>\n

Justin Atchison graduated from Caddo Magnet High in 2001 and worked as a mission design lead on the DART project. He works for the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab.<\/p>\n
