CADDO MAGNET STUDENT RECEIVES 2ND PLACE AT<\/strong>
\n2021 NATIONAL JUNIOR SCIENCE AND HUMANITIES SYMPOSIUM<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Shreveport, LA Apr. 17, 2021 \u2013 Caddo Parish Magnet High School, Shreveport is proud to announce that junior
\nAshini Modi<\/strong> received 2nd place in the 2021 National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. As a result
\nshe will receive an $8,000 scholarship to the university of her choosing.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, Modi received first runner-up for her mini-film in the first annual mini-film festival that was part of
\nthe symposium. You can watch her film at this <\/span>link<\/span>: https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=E-0T2bXFjIU<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Modi\u2019s research focused on using Gravitational Wave data from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave
\nObservatory (LIGO) and Virgo to compute the two-point correlation function of Binary Black Hole Mergers.
\nPreviously, the two-point correlation function has only been used for galaxies and the Cosmic Microwave
\nBackground. The correlation function tells us how Binary Black Holes are distributed in our universe, helping us
\nfurther understand their formation. She thanks her mentor Dr. Cavaglia at the Missouri Univeristy of Science
\nand Technology and teachers at Caddo Parish Magnet High School.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The Junior Science and Humanities Symposia program is jointly sponsored by the United States Departments
\nof the Army, Navy, and Air Force, in cooperation with leading research universities throughout the nation.
\nForty-nine regional symposia are affiliated with the JSHS program, reaching over 10,000 high school students
\nand teachers throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and in the Department of Defense Dependents
\nSchools, Europe and Pacific Rim regions. The university sponsored symposia invite the participation of
\nsecondary schools within their regions.<\/span><\/p>\n
