Extra Curricular .5 Credit Sports Form<\/a><\/p>\n

Health\/Athletics PE Credit Options<\/strong><\/p>\n

Due to academic rigor of programs and the need for consistency in concepts learned, students are not allowed to earn Carnegie credit for core courses or graduation requirements other than PE\/Health taken online or in summer camps, etc.\u00a0 All courses taken away from Caddo Magnet\u2019s campus must have the approval of the principal if the student wishes to receive high school credit.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are some areas in which 9th<\/sup> graders may obtain high school credit that will apply toward graduation requirements.\u00a0 This is available to other grade levels as well.<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0 On-line Health\/PE Credit<\/strong><\/p>\n

Caddo Magnet High School allows the \u00bd Health credit and 1 and \u00bd PE credits needed for graduation to be taken online. See below for a list of course options. This is a course that will require payment by the parent.\u00a0 These courses are taken through the BYU Independent Study program.<\/p>\n

The Correspondence Course Request Form<\/em> to obtain approval to take the course may be found on the school\u2019s website, www.caddomagnet.net<\/a>, under the counseling tab. Once the form is completed it should be submitted to Kim Bond at kbond@caddoschools.org<\/a>. Once approved, Mrs. Bond will confirm approval and you may sign up for your requested course.<\/p>\n

To register, go to\u00a0https:\/\/byuonline.byu.edu\/home<\/a>\u00a0and create an account.\u00a0There will be an option that states your student is in high school. Be sure to select that and link the BYU account to Caddo Parish Magnet High School. This is how we get the credit for transcript purposes. This process should be completed by June for students to enroll for the following semester<\/u>. Failure to register for at least one course by this date will result in an on-campus PE placement.<\/p>\n

PE Course Options Through BYU: Aerobics, Bowling, Cycling, Fitness for Living Well, Fitness for Sports and Recreation, Golf, Health\u00a0\u00a0 Education (Part 1), Intermediate Swimming, Jogging for Fitness, Tennis, Walking Fitness, Weight Training<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0 Extracurricular Sport \u00bd Credit<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Louisiana Department of Education allows high school athletes that participate on school-sponsored athletic teams during the high school season to receive a one-time <\/em>\u00bd credit for PE<\/strong>.\u00a0 Athletes must participate in practice\/competitions for a minimum of 62.6 hours in order to receive this credit.\u00a0 Off campus PE and athletic teams that have a PE class on campus do not qualify for this program.\u00a0 Students participating in the following Caddo Magnet athletic teams may possibly qualify:\u00a0 Cheerleading, Cross Country, Golf, Lacrosse, Power Lifting, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track, Volleyball, and Wrestling. \u00a0The form (Extracurricular Athletic .5 Credit Form)<\/em> to obtain approval may be found on the school\u2019s website, www.caddomagnet.net<\/a>, under the counseling tab.\u00a0 Once the form is completed by your coach, he\/she will submit it to your grade level counselor.\u00a0 This is to be done immediately AFTER<\/strong> a student-athlete has completed the high school season. You may not use this option to opt out of taking a PE\/Health course freshman year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
