First Coates Bluff History Fair is a Success

Mrs. Dionne Procell organized a very successful history fair that focused on the history of the surrounding area known as Coates Bluff.  With the help of Ms. Brooke Jones, Mr. Bill Knox, and Mrs. Karen Soileau, attendees enjoyed a very fun, interactive, and educational experience.

History came alive as student reenactors portrayed key people from this time period –  Duke Pierce as Henry Miller Shreve, Summer Jones as James Coates, Amanda-Marie Davis as Mary Bennett Cane, Allison Huffty as Larkin Edwards, Shayan Yerrapragada as Caddo Chief Tarshar, Becca Burnett as Bushrod Jenkins, and Dart Bennett as Jacob, who worked for the Bennetts and Canes.  Many other students helped run the activity tables, food booths, lights and sound during the PAC presentation.  Daniel Bae interviewed Mr. Robert Trudeau, Emily Boykin interviewed Mr. Jeff Girard, Tia Jones interviewed Mr. Gary Joiner, and Jaime Lynch interviewed Mrs. Susan Keith for production of a documentary video done by Avery Prevot.   SciPort, the Montessori School for Shreveport Dad’s Group, Bossier Parish Libraries, the Caddo Lake Institute, and the Louisiana Archaeological Society Northwest Chapter all had tables set up as part of the program. There were guided tours on the Coates Bluff walking trail.

Jon Soul was awarded a token of appreciation for all of the work that he has put into the Coates Bluff Walking Trail.  Without his vision, dedication, and determination the trail would not exist.
